I have discovered the Val d’Orcia region through amazing photos I have seen on Instagram. Mainly landscapes from the stunning green tuscan landscapes, this spring we decided to go discover the valley and its lovely small towns.
San Quirico d’Orcia is the main town of the whole region in the province of Siena and it is a lovely antique town that dates back to 1550 ca. The houses were built in the classic tuscan stone walls which you can not not fall in love with. Also, although it was late April, the weather was already really hot, we had incredibly lucky sunny days. Our hotel – a typical agriturismo – was only a few km outside the heart of the town, in the middle of some great green fields and had a superlative view! (will do a post about it soon).
So on the last day, after two lovely dinners at the same restaurant on the main street of San Quirico, we had to visit it by day! That is how we came across the well-cared for Horti Leonini, a sweet little garden that opens up from the center square as well as the other end where trees were blooming in bright pink!
These little towns of Tuscany just like Bagno Vignoni, Pienza or Castiglione d’Orcia – which I will be posting about! – look like the time has stopped, life goes on slowly and more calmly. It is like a jump back in the past, but so sweet and nice to get away from the stress and frenzy of the huge cities… Do not miss taking a coffee in one of those bars where the locals go for some conversation about politics and sports, especially soccer!
