Change height to see a new perspective
Since I was born, we have been living in this building in the IXth disctrict of Budapest and we only did move to the next door when the 2 rooms were not enough for all of us 4. So we bought the bigger apartment 3 meters on the left.
In all these years (although, for full disclosure, we have been living there only a few years when not abroad) never did we know that it was possible – for special occasion or if you asked the building manager – to go on the rooftop and admire the panorama! I do not think anyone knows about this magical door that leads in the light of the blue sky…
In June, by chance, while talking with a friend living in the same building with his family, my Dad found out there was this opportunity to go up and enjoy the view which, in great weather conditions allows you to see up to Gellért Hegy, which is on the other side of the Danube! Luckily – and after a short insisting – my Dad’s friend took us to the roof; and the view from up there was amazing! I never imagined how it could look like from that height, which is around 30-32 m since there are 10 floors (approximatively 2,70m per apartment plus the width of each floor).
Having our apartment on the lowest floor, street level, I have never even climbed up to any other floor, so I was really surprised by the view when we arrived on top. The perspective is way different, trees are seen from above while I have always been used to face them, people and cars are so small and the city seems so wide (although it is not that big)! It is great to have a new, different point of view on things, because what may seem a 6 might as well be a 9 if seen from an other angle… Keep an open mind always.
