Olive trees are my absolute favorite trees. They always have been: the leaves have such a particular color and the whole plant is so different from other trees and in their difference they are beautiful. Have you ever collected olives from the tree with that electric shaker/picker? Well, many years ago I have and on one hand it is amazing even though on the other one hand it is such a fatigue. But in the end, seeing the result of your work in buckets is so satisfactory! For years having an olive tree field has been my dream, and I have surrendered to be an owner one day…
Olive oil has long been considered sacred. The olive branch was often a symbol of abundance, glory, and peace. The leafy branches of the olive tree were ritually offered to deities and powerful figures as emblems of benediction and purification, and they were used to crown the victors of friendly games and bloody wars.
In Castiglione del Lago and more precisely behind Palazzo della Corgna, there is this wonderful garden full of even more beautiful olive trees! These are all secular trees and some of them are broken in half which were really fun especially for Jam who could pass in the middle of the trunk 🙂 The whole garden was a beautiful and such peaceful place; I could see myself being here every afternoon reading a book or just staring at the beauty of nature.
